Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood living in New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started her career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976, she joined CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV situated in Washington DC (then WTOP). The following year, she was a general correspondent at NBC News in Washington. She started covering the White House in 1981 and was appointed chief congressional correspondent by the year 1988. She became the chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as the chief International Affairs correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell was a guest on the TV news program Meet the Press as a panelist as well as host. She was on the panel in the presidential debates in 1988 between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell won the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 to recognize her efforts in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell first reported on the White House for NBC News from 1981 to 1988 throughout both Ronald Reagan's presidency. Mitchell covered a broad range of important stories, including the Iran-contra affair and budget tax reform. Mitchell traveled with President Ronald Reagan throughout his numerous trips to international summits, and also reported frequently.
